When one panel is the whole job
Plenty of companies will not come out for a single torn screen, and the ones that will often price it as though the trip needs justifying. We do neither. Panels are $35 to $65 for walls and $55 to $95 for roof and gable openings, and there is no minimum charge attached.
The reason we take them is that single panels are how most customer relationships start. Somebody catches a branch through one opening, we fix it properly, and four years later they call us for the full rescreen. Padding a $50 job is a good way to guarantee that second call never happens.
What causes single-panel failures
- Impact — falling limbs are the most common cause in Tampa, and they usually take out roof panels rather than walls.
- Pets — almost always in the bottom two or three feet. Worth considering pet mesh for that row.
- Furniture — chair backs and table corners pushed against a panel stretch it locally until it lets go.
- Pool equipment — poles and vacuum heads catching a panel on the way past.
- Localised frame failure — if the same panel keeps failing, the problem is the channel or fastener, not the mesh.
The colour-match problem, honestly
New charcoal mesh is genuinely dark. Mesh that has spent five or six Tampa summers in the sun has faded toward grey. Put them side by side and the new panel is obviously new, and stays obviously new for a year or so until it catches up.
We tell people this before quoting rather than after installing, because it changes what you might want to do. If the damaged panel is on a wall nobody looks at, replace it and move on. If it is the wall you sit facing every evening, doing that whole wall at once costs more but looks right immediately.

When we will tell you to do more
If we arrive for one panel and find that the surrounding mesh fails the fingertip test, we will say so. Not to upsell, but because replacing one opening in a wall that is about to go entirely is money spent twice. You will get both numbers — the single panel and the full wall or full cage — and you decide.

Not if the surrounding mesh is more than about five years old. New charcoal is noticeably darker than sun-faded mesh and stays that way for roughly a year. We flag this before quoting so you can decide whether doing the whole wall is worth the difference.
Usually same visit. We carry standard charcoal, no-see-um and pet mesh plus several spline gauges on the truck, so most single-panel work is finished during the same trip that quotes it.
Sun. Roof and gable panels sit under direct UV all day rather than for part of it, so they age at roughly double the rate. Tree canopy makes it worse by adding impact damage from falling limbs on top of the UV load.
That is a frame or fastener problem wearing a screen problem as a disguise. A corroded channel, a screw that no longer bites or an opened corner joint cannot hold tension, so any mesh put in that opening will fail again. It needs the aluminium fixed, not more screen.
Yes, and we check what you have before quoting. Putting standard fiberglass next to a wall of no-see-um weave looks and performs differently, so if your cage already has an upgraded mesh in that zone we match it rather than substituting the cheaper option.
Per panel, slightly, because the trip and setup are shared. The bigger saving is avoiding a second visit in twelve months. If several panels on one wall are the same age, doing them together is usually the better value even though the invoice is larger today.
Yes. Upper-level panels cost more because of the ladder or staging work involved, typically toward the top of the roof panel range. We will tell you the access surcharge as part of the quote rather than discovering it on the day.
Then standard mesh in that zone is the wrong product. Pet-resistant polyester on the lower rows, or a solid kick plate for a determined large dog, will stop you paying for the same repair repeatedly. It costs more once instead of less several times.
Yes, two years on workmanship and spline for the panels we install, same as a full rescreen. New damage to that panel from a branch, a pet or a storm is not a workmanship issue but we will repair it at the normal per-panel rate.
